Growing Alberta

Breakfast on the run

Story by Jenny Deguia

No matter how organized your morning routine, there often comes a day when time is your worst enemy. Even the slightest delay can mean battling rush-hour traffic on an empty stomach. Grumble no more! Fight back with these easy recipes to give yourself a quick and healthy start to the morning.

  • Berry Smoothie
Blend together 1 cup of fresh/frozen berries, 1 cup of milk, a few ice cubes and a pinch of sugar. Pour into your favorite travel mug and breakfast is served! For other smoothie variations, visit albertamilk.com
  • Power-packed Wheat Squares
Pre-make these puffed wheat cereal ‘grab and go’ squares for the whole family. They’re healthy, filling and compact. Easy to eat in the car or on the run. Check out the recipe at growingalberta.com/recipesforliving
  • Breakfast Burrito - if you’re looking for substance, eggs are the ticket. Crack an egg into a bowl and whisk for a few seconds. Add chopped green onions, tomatoes and grated cheese, or enjoy perfectly plain. Microwave for 2 minutes, then roll scrambled egg in a whole-wheat tortilla shell. Add salsa to this tasty drive-thru alternative. Find more speedy egg recipes at eggs.ab.ca
